The age of crackpot zero tolerance nonsense needs to come to an end (Amen!—my addition).
As a child, I played cops and mobsters, cowboys and Indians and army vs. army. If I was a child today I probably would have been locked up on someone’s terrorism watch list as would most of us over the age of 25.
What has led me to this belief? Because the Imagination Nazis are out in force, goosestepping all over imagination and childhood play. Banning toy guns apparently isn’t good enough for some ‘educators’ like the South Eastern School District in Pennsylvania.
This school district has the tagline: ‘Providing Progressive Education to Strengthen the Global Community’ (That says it all!—my addition) .
With a motto like that is it any wonder that the powers that be suspended a 10 year old boy, Johnny Jones, for pantomiming a bow and arrow?
According to the Rutherford Institute, a civil liberties organization:
‘Jones was in the front of his fifth grade classroom on October 14, when fellow student playfully rolled a folder into a tube and acted like he fired a shot at Jones. Jones, in turn, pulled out a pretend bow and arrow and acted like he discharged a bow. One classmate saw the exchange and informed a teacher (Why?—my addition). The teacher took the students into the hallway (A double why?—my addition) and the school’s principal contacted Jones’ mother (A triple why? Three people behaving badly and two of them are adult authority figures! Our grade school, first through fourth grade, had a little terrace area on one side of the building. At lunch hour, a bunch of the boys would gather and play “king of the hill.” One boy would be the horse, a second boy would be the rider, and each horse and rider working as a team would try to pull the riders on the other horses off of their horses. The last horse and rider standing was the winner. It was so much fun! In today’s climate, the first day we did that, we would have all been expelled for the year!—my addition).’
First of all, that other classmate should be shunned for being some (Derogatory phrase deleted—my addition) twerp who ratted out their classmates over NOTHING.
If the kids in question were disrupting the class and being a nuisance and were being disciplined for that, that is one thing. For a playful action between two friends that took no more than a few seconds that the teacher did not even witness, they are suspending the boys and threatening expulsion.
The statement from Rutherford Institute explains that Principal John Horton told Mrs. Jones, that under the new weapons policy her son’s actions could justifiably lead to his expulsion (What weapon?—my addition). Horton characterized Johnny’s actions as ‘making a threat’ to another student using a ‘replica or representation of a firearm (Seriously? In what universe?—my addition)’.
First of all, a bow and arrow isn’t a firearm. Secondly, IT’S NOT REAL. Basically the boy is being condemned for using his imagination in play (Indeed!—my addition). How messed up is that?
As I said, who among us hasn’t, in their youth, pointed finger in play and go ‘BANG BANG (Even the principal?—my addition)’?
The parents fortunately aren’t taking this laying down and have demanded that the school remove the suspension from Johnny’s permanent record or face legal actions (Good for them! It is a good thing the district can not be sued for stupidity! This is an education system?—my addition). Good for them.
Unfortunately this isn’t an isolated incident, but rather just the latest in the insanity of power made Administrators looking to kill childhood fun.
As I reported in October, an Administrator in Virginia Beach gave long term suspensions to children playing with toy guns AT HOME claiming their zero tolerance policy on guns extends to private property: Playing with toy guns AT HOME gets 3 students yearlong suspension from school
Then we have an 8 year old boy from Florida who was suspended in October for using his finger while playing cops and robbers (Fingers can be dangerous!—my addition). The Harmony Community school district decided to rake little Jordan Bennett over the coals too for playing with his friends. The school district claims it has a ban on invisible guns (Seriously? I did not know there were such things. May I buy one? It would be so cool to have an invisible gun! Are the bullets invisible too?—my addition). No, seriously. Just another example of even IMAGINARY gun control failing.
At the beginning of the year a 6 year old was suspended in Maryland’s Montgomery School district for pointing his finger and saying pow (Pow is a dangerous word! You could get hurt with pow! Good thing it wasn’t pow, pow, pow! Now that is dangerous!—my addition). Once again, knee jerk reactions and zero tolerance nonsense in the wake of Sandy Hook found this SIX YEAR OLD child with a black mark on his permanent record making him seem like he is a violent threat (At six! Now that is progressive!—my addition).
Remember, out of school suspensions are recorded and a dozen years down the road when these kids are trying to get into college they have to explain why their schools viewed them as dangerous potential mass murderers.
At that point you are hoping the University staff will actually believe you were banned for a year because of a imaginary bow and arrow or gun.
All these examples are more evidence that public schools aren’t about educating as much as they are about indoctrinating (Get your children out of such schools now if you can not change them!—my addition). The administrators of these schools have made it their mission to brainwash these kids to correlate guns with punishment. By doing so the administrators hope that when these kids grow up they will have the same amount of irrational fear and hoplophobia that they do.
It’s the long con of the educational system. And one, I hope, more people like the Jones’ stand up and fight against.
It is the only way to stop the spread of Imagination Nazism on the childhood of America.”
Know your public school district! If they fail your expectations, get your children out of the schools! Your children are at stake!
