Public School Education: Where’s the Competition? Who Sends Their Children to Private Schools?

Update: Heard on the 7PM ABC radio news that according to a just released poll about 50% of those polled disapprove of how President Obama is handling the shut down. About 60% disapprove of Democrats handling and about 70% of the Republicans handling. Of course, they never give the questions asked so it is impossible to knew if the questions were slanted. Plus, I don’t trust anything that comes from the mainstream media when it come to polls or anything else for that matter.

That said, I’ve been hearing about the poll all day. The 7PM report was the first time they also said that “even conservative Republicans disapproved of the Republicans handling of it by a 59% margin.” And I immediately said, of course! And that is why the Republican figure is higher than the other two. As a conservative Republican, I do not like President Obama’s handling of it and of the Democrats handling of it. I also do not like the Republicans handling of it but for a very different reason. I don’t think they should have compromised down from defunding to delaying. Now, I’ll take delaying over funding. But, we should have stayed with defunding throughout. And that friends is why the Republican number is so high. Democrats don’t like the Republican position because they want funding. And conservative Republicans don’t like the Republican position because we want DEFUNDING! That said, I urge ALL Republicans to stand firm on delaying! Those who do not will be primaried!!! Competition is good for the economy and competition is good for the Republican Party!!! Competition keeps Congressmen committed to we the people!!!

“Racial Trade-offs
By Walter E. Williams
October 8, 2013

Trade-offs apply to our economic lives, as well as our political lives. That means getting more of one thing requires giving up something else. Let’s look at some examples.

Black congressmen and black public officials in general, including Barack Obama, always side with teachers unions in their opposition to educational vouchers, tuition tax credits, charter schools and other measures that would allow black parents to take their children out of failing public schools (And bring competition to the market place! Competition works in both lowering the price of a product and improving that product! This is also why Obamacare is a disaster! It destroys competition rather than generating competition! Theall knowingfederal government dictates what will occur rather than allowing competition in the market place to direct costs and products! That is also why socialism will always ultimately failno competition!my addition). Most black politicians and many black professionals take the position of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who is on record as saying, ‘We shouldn’t abandon the public schools.’

Taking such a political stance is understandable because black congressmen and other black elected officials are part of a coalition. As such, they are expected to vote for things that other coalition members want in order that those coalition members vote for things that black politicians want. There’s no question that these black public officials are getting something in return for their support of teachers unions and others who benefit from the educational status quo. The question not addressed by black people is whether what black politicians are getting for their support of a failed educational system is worth the sacrifice of whole generations of black youngsters, educationally handicapping them and making many virtually useless in the high-tech world of the 21st century (My answer is absolutely not. I think it is also Mr. Williams’ answer!my addition).

Though many black politicians mouth that we should fix, not abandon, public schools, they themselves have abandoned public schools (Hypocrites?my addition). They see their children as too precious to be sacrificed in the name of public education (But not the children of others in the Black community?my addition). While living in Chicago, Barack Obama sent his daughters to the prestigious University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. When he moved to Washington, President Obama enrolled his daughters in the prestigious Sidwell Friends School. According to a report by The Heritage Foundation, ‘exactly 52 percent of Congressional Black Caucus members and 38 percent of Congressional Hispanic Caucus members sent at least one child to private school.’ Overall, only 6 percent of black students attend private school.

It’s not just black politicians who fight tooth and nail against parental school choice and have their children in private schools.

When President Obama’s White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel resigned and became mayor of Chicago, he did not enroll his children in the Windy City’s public schools (I do not blame him! The Chicago Public School system is terrible! The head of the system before Barack Hussein Obama became Presidentthe present Secretary of Education!my addition). He enrolled his son and two daughters in the University of Chicago Lab Schools. And members of Congress, regardless of race, are three to four times likelier than the public to send their children to private schools.

According to a 2004 Thomas B. Fordham Institute study, more than 1 in 5 public school teachers sent their children to private schools (Now, that I did not know. When I was on the school board, one of the five school board members sent their child to a private school! Right in line with the teachers!my addition). In some cities, the figure is much higher. In Philadelphia, 44 percent of the teachers put their children in private schools (Ouch!my addition); in Cincinnati, it’s 41 percent, and Chicago (39 percent) and Rochester, N.Y. (38 percent), also have high figures. In the San Francisco-Oakland area, 34 percent of public school teachers enroll their children in private schools, and in New York City, it’s 33 percent.

Only 11 percent of all parents enroll their children in private schools. The fact that so many public school teachers enroll their own children in private schools ought to raise questions (Most certainly should!my addition). After all, what would you think, after having accepted a dinner invitation, if you discovered that the owner, chef, waiters and busboys at the restaurant to which you were being taken don’t eat there? That would suggest they have some inside information from which you might benefit (Indeed!my addition).

I don’t think anything that black politicians get from the NEA, the AFT, the NAACP (many members are teachers), the National Urban League or others who have a vested financial interest in a failed educational system is worth committing whole generations of black youngsters to educational mediocrity (Nor do I! We need competition! Real competition for everyone! However, it must occur at the State and local level!my addition). The prospects for a change are not good, particularly in light of the new fact that the NAACP is being wooed to join the AFL-CIO (The National Association for the Advancement of  Colored People is a union?my addition).

What we need in the education system of this country more than anything is competition!

1) Obamacare is immoral!

2) Obamacare is illegal!

3) Obamacare is unconstitutional!

4) the American people do NOT want Obamacare implemented!

5) If you vote for Obamacare funding, YOU OWN Obamacare!

6) Obamacare is a vote for, vote against issue in 2014!

7) He/she represents US not the Party and not the President!

Petition to the President concerning the World War II Memorial

From: http://aclj.org/american-heritage/obama-blocks-wwii-heroes-from-memorial

The Obama Administration is spending money to block access to the World War II Memorial, using veterans as pawns as he works to save the abortion-pill mandate.

The World War II Memorial is open-air and open 24 hours a day, but the Obama Administration brought in forklifts, barricades, and security to shut it down.

President Obama would rather block World War II vets from their memorial than delay his individual mandate for even one year or give up on his abortion-pill mandate.

The ACLJ has sent a team to the Memorial site, and we’re fighting back. Sign our petition:

Mr. President, Honor Our Veterans. Open Our Nation’s War Memorials.

To President Obama:

Don’t play partisan politics with American heroes. Honor the men and women who sacrificed for our freedom. Apologize to our veterans, and stop spending money to close American war memorials.
