I heard on ABC radio news earlier today that President Obama has decided not to take action on amnesty for illegal aliens (“immigration reform” in Left euphemism) until after the 2014 election. Of course, the reason he decided to wait was because some Democrat Senators up for reelection this year are scared silly that they will lose the election if MORE amnesty is implemented before the election. They think the American voter is TOO STUPID to realize there is no difference whether an illegal act is implemented before or after an election. It is still an illegal act that will do great harm to America!

Protests are going on for higher wages for fast food workers in many cities throughout the United States! Unfortunately, it seems these workers lack a basic education in economics. The issue is a supply and demand issue—basic economics 101. If wages are increased WITHOUT a corresponding immediate increase in productivity, only one of three things can occur or some combination of the three.
1) Costs of production (wages) are increased and therefore prices have to increase to cover the increase in costs of production.
2) Costs in other areas have to be decreased. However, in most businesses, labor costs are the major cost to the business. Therefore to lower costs, it may be necessary to fire workers! The first to be fired will be the new workers who should not be as productive as experienced workers. Automation might be increased decreasing still further the need for workers. Machines do not have to be paid $15 an hour and do not have to be given periodic breaks.
3) The business owner has less profit. However, if profits get too low, it will not be worth it to continue with the business, therefore the business may completely close down as the owner goes out of business. Ever hear of Montgomery Wards? It use to be a major retailer. Went out of business. It is no more. A lot of businesses begin, thrive, and then go out of business! It is the way of competition!

Thousands of fast-food workers across 150 cities nationwide gathered today to call for a $15-an-hour minimum wage.
However, a report released today by James Sherk, senior policy analyst in labor economics at The Heritage Foundation, found that fast-food restaurants would have to boost their prices 38 percent to make up for the increased labor costs.

Such an increase, Sherk said, would drive away about one-third of these restaurants’ customers.

Some people have to learn the economic facts of life the hard way. I hope that is not the case for these protesting workers! Workers beware! Are the same people who want to allow millions of illegal aliens to flood the workforce looking out for your best interests by pushing a wage increase that will severely HARM YOU?
