“70 Straight Days: Treasury Says Debt Stuck at Exactly $16,699,396,000,000.00
By Terence P. Jeffrey
July 29, 2013
(CNSNews.com)—According to the Daily Treasury Statement for July 26, which the Treasury released this afternoon, the federal debt has been stuck at exactly $16,699,396,000,000.00 for 70 straight days.
That is approximately $25 million below the legal limit of $16,699,421,095,673.60 that Congress has imposed on the debt.
The portion of the federal debt subject to the legal limit set by Congress first hit $16,699,396,000,000.00 at the close of business on May 17. At the close of every business day since then, it has also been $16,699,396,000,000.00, according to the official accounting published by the Treasury Department. If the debt had increased by even $30 million at any time during those 70 days, it would have exceeded the statutory limit. But, according to the Treasury, the debt did not do that. Instead, it remained precisely $16,699,396,000,000.00 (Nothing devious about this Administration! They cheat! They know we know they cheat! And they do not care! What are you going to do about it?—my addition).
Even though the government's official accounting of the debt has not budged for 70 days, the Treasury has continued to sell bills, notes and bonds at a value that exceeds the value of the bills, notes and bonds it was redeeming (How can that happen?—my addition).
In fact, according to the Daily Treasury Statement for May 17, the Treasury had by then already redeemed approximately $4,776,995,000,000.00 since the beginning of the fiscal year (which started on Oct. 1, 2012). As of that same day, the Treasury had already sold $5,354,508,000.000.00 new bills, notes and bonds during the fiscal year. That represented a net increase in publicly circulating U.S. government debt instruments of $577,513,000,000.00 for the fiscal year.
As of July 26, according to the latest Treasury statement, the Treasury had already redeemed approximately $6,128,368,000,000.00 in bills, notes and bonds during this fiscal year. But, at the same time, according to the statement, the Treasury had sold an additional $6,759,148,000,000.00 bills, note and bonds—for a net increase of $630,780,000,000.00 for the year (Creative math? The new math?—my addition).
Thus, the value of U.S. Treasury debt instruments circulating in the public has increased $53.267 billion since May 17—even though the Treasury says the debt has remained exactly at $16,699,396,000,000.00 during that time.
How could the value of extant U.S. Treasury securities increase by $53.267 billion during a 70-day period when the federal government’s debt subject to the legal limit has remained constant at $16,699,396,000,000.00—just $25 million below the legal limit (Good question? Is there a good answer?—my addition)?
On May 17, the day the debt began its long stay at $16,699,396,000,000.00, Treasury Secretary Lew sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner. In the letter, Lew said the Treasury would begin implementing what he called ‘the standard set of extraordinary measures’ (Cooking the books!—my addition) that allows the Treasury to continue to borrow and spend money even after it has hit the legal debt limit.”

I receive both of these yesterday. The first is sad because there is a lot of truth in it. The second, I’ve read before in a different form. It is still funny. I hope you enjoy them.

“‘People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would do them harm’
~ George Orwell
THE JEWISH QUARTERBACK
The coach had put together the perfect team for the Chicago Bears. The only thing that was missing was a good quarterback. He had scouted all the colleges and even the Canadian and European Leagues, but he couldn’t find a ringer who could ensure a Super Bowl win.
Then one night while watching FOX News, he saw a war-zone scene in the West Bank. In one corner of the background, he spotted a young Israeli soldier with a truly incredible arm. He threw a hand-grenade straight into a 15th story window 100 yards away.
KABOOM!
He threw another hand-grenade 75 yards away, right into a chimney.
KA-BLOOEY!
Then he threw another at a passing car going 90 mph.
BULLS-EYE!
‘I’ve got to get this guy!’ Coach said to himself. ‘He has the perfect arm!’
He goes to Israel and after much discussion brings the Israeli to the USA and trains him in the great game of football.
And the Chicago Bears go on to win the Super Bowl!!!
The young man is hailed as the greatest hero of football, and when the coach asks him what he wants, all the young man wants is to call his mother.
‘Mom,’ he says into the phone, ‘I just won the Super Bowl!’
‘I don’t want to talk to you, the old woman says. ‘You are not my son!’
‘I don’t think you understand, Mother,’ the young man pleads. ‘I’ve won the greatest sporting event in the world. I’m here among thousands of my adoring fans.’
‘No! Let me tell you!’ his mother retorts. ‘At this very moment, there are gunshots all around us. The neighborhood is a pile of rubble. Your two brothers were beaten within an inch of their lives last week, and I have to keep your sister in the house so she doesn’t get raped!’ The old lady pauses, and then tearfully says, ........
‘I will never forgive you for making us move to Chicago!!!!’

“Subject: Pope visits Alaska
The Pope went on vacation for a few days to visit the rugged mountains of Alaska. He was driving along the campground when he heard a frantic commotion just at the edge of the woods. He found a helpless Democrat wearing shorts, sandals, a ‘Vote for Obama’ hat and a ‘Save the Trees’ shirt. The man was screaming and struggling frantically, thrashing all about and trying to free himself from the grasp of a 10-foot grizzly bear.
As the Pope watched in horror, a group of Republican loggers wearing Go Sarah shirts came racing up. One quickly fired a .44 magnum slug right into the bear’s chest. The two other men pulled the semiconscious Democrat from the bear’s grasp. Then using baseball bats, the three loggers finished off the bear. Two of the men dragged the dead grizzly onto the bed of their pickup truck while the other tenderly placed the injured Democrat in the back seat.
As they began to leave, the Pope summoned all of them over to him. ‘I give you my blessing for your brave actions!’ he proudly proclaimed. ‘I have heard there was bitter hatred between Republican loggers and Democratic environmental activists, but now I’ve seen with my own eyes that this is not true.’
As the Pope drove off, one logger asked his buddies, ‘Who the XXXXXX (Expletive deleted—my addition) was that guy?’
‘Dude, that was the Pope,’ another replied. ‘He’s in direct contact with Heaven and has access to all wisdom.’
‘Well,’ the logger said, ‘he may have access to all wisdom, but he don’t know squat about bear hunting. By the way, is the bait still alive or do we need to go back to California and get another one?’”

“$299K Grant To Help Pacific Islanders Understand Their Own Language
By Curtis Houck
July 23, 2013
(CNSNews.com)—A team from the University of California-Santa Cruz (UCSC) will spend nearly $300,000 of U.S. taxpayer money to study a rare language spoken by just 45,000 people in the Mariana Islands, which include the North Mariana Islands in Micronesia, a United States commonwealth, and Guam, a U.S. territory located in the northwestern Pacific.
‘Chamorro is spoken by 45,000 people in the Mariana Islands, which are part of the U.S. and its possessions. It is currently in the early stages of language endangerment (Language Endangerment! Are they serious!—my addition),’ according to the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) grant abstract.
Chamorro is considered a language of the Austronesian people, the term given for a broader family of languages and peoples on islands all throughout Oceania and Eastern Asia. Researchers say ‘the experimental protocols developed can be extended to research on other languages not spoken in highly industrialized societies.’
‘Past studies of language comprehension have been limited to ‘major’ world languages (English, other European languages, Chinese, Japanese) and college-age students. This severely underrepresents the diversity of the world’s languages and populations, and could potentially lead to scientific conclusions that are distorted or incomplete (What?—my addition),’ according to the abstract.
The research team, led by Dr. Matthew Wagers, a pyscholinguist at UCSC, ‘will undertake experimental studies that build on special linguistic features of Chamorro to uncover how Chamorro speakers comprehend their language in real time (Is there an unreal time?—my addition).’
According to the abstract, residents of three of the islands of all ages and levels of education will be recruited for the study. That translates to about $6.65 per person in grant money to train ‘several young Chamorros’ in the ‘goals and methods of the research.’ They will also ‘help administer the studies (Helps the unemployment rate? Make work jobs?—my addition).’
The abstract cites unique facts about Chamorro, such as the fact that the verb comes before the subject in their sentences; ‘verb agreement differentiates questions from non-questions; and sentence structure is affected by animacy (whether a noun is alive, dead, or a non-living entity).’
The research will also expose Pacific Islanders to ‘scientific research, and in so doing, will affirm the unique contributions that a language can make to the scientific understanding of human cognition.’
Awarded on February 5, the $299,231 grant is slated to run through September 2016.
An NSF spokeswoman said that there has not been any feedback from the project since it was only awarded in April, but described the work of the NSF’s Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences division on the whole as having ‘led to discoveries that have both enhanced fundamental knowledge and provided value to the American people (Such as? Support!—my addition).’
She also said that all NSF proposals are subject to ‘the same gold standard, merit review process to review all proposals submitted to the agency (Maybe the gold standard needs to be changed! Actually, we should STOP spending money we do not have! It is called priorities!—my addition).’
‘This method ensures that all proposals submitted are reviewed in a fair, competitive, transparent, and in-depth manner by a peer-review panel of scientific experts in the relevant field(s). Every proposal is reviewed against two merit review criteria: the intellectual merit of the proposal and the broader impacts of the project.’”

“$500K to See How Oil Industry Impacts Domestic Violence, Rape in Dakotas, Montana
By Melanie Hunter
July 25, 2013
(CNSNews.com)—The National Institute of Justice is planning to spend $500,000 in federal funds to see if the booming oil industry has impacted domestic violence, dating violence, rape, and stalking in North Dakota and South Dakota and Montana.
‘Qualitative and quantitative methods should be used to better understand whether the influx of oil workers in these communities is having any impact on victims of, or contributing to an increase in domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking,’ the grant solicitation said.
‘Qualitative efforts should target community members, criminal justice agencies and staff, and victim service providers.”
‘Quantitative methods should include the examination of available criminal justice data, both prior to and after the introduction of the oil camps,’ the grant added (And what is going to be the result of the study? What is the purpose? Outlaw the booming oil industry? Is this a federal concern or local?—my addition).
According to the grant, examples of the types of data gathered could include:
• Current State and local laws related to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
• Changes in registered sexual offenders.
• Administrative crime and victimization data with respect to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, including information on migrant or immigrant victims.
• 911 and other calls for emergency services related to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
• Emergency room visits related to victimization/intentional injury as a result of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
• Law enforcement and prosecutor caseload (local, tribal, Federal, private security) with respect to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
• Victim services hotline calls related to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
• Victim services caseload and services delivered to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
• Other indicators of any impact on victims of or increase in domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, as appropriate. The grant, which is not expected to exceed $500,000, was announced on June 6, and the last date for applications is Aug. 5.
The proposed project period start date should be on or after January 1, 2014.The initial project period for an award should not exceed three years, the grant said. CNSNews.com contacted NIJ for comment, but phone calls were not returned by press time (The federal government shut down tours for the White House but have money for this study?—my addition).”

“Government Spending $544,188 to Promote HPV Vaccine
By Eric Scheiner
July 24, 2013
(CNSNews.com)—The National Institutes of Health has awarded $544,188 to the University of California this year for a study on how to boost the number of young girls getting Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccinations in Los Angeles County.
Although the federal Centers for Disease Control says the benefits of the Gardasil vaccine outweigh the risk, it counts 772 serious adverse side effects, including 32 deaths, among the millions of doses administered to young girls between June 2006 and December 2008.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is assisting in the study, titled, ‘Increasing HPV Vaccine Uptake in a Low Income Ethnic Minority Population,’ by giving callers information on HPV clinics when they call the department for information or services.
According to the grant description, the ‘intervention’—which takes place by telephone—is directed at mothers of age-eligible girls (11-18 years old). These mothers will be given basic information about the vaccine, ‘individually tailored messages to address callers’ barriers to HPV vaccination,’ and referral to a clinic offering low cost/free vaccines (Get free stuff and don’t pay attention to possible negative aspects!—my addition).
Project Leader Dr. Roshan Bastani told CNSNews.com that Los Angeles County wants age-eligible girls in their area to get the HPV vaccine. ‘You can’t directly do this for minors, so when the mothers call in, we ask the women who call in if they have an age-eligible daughter, and if they do, then they go into giving them the information on why it’s (HPV vaccine) important.’
‘When they call in, not only do we tell them about the HPV, we also make a specific referral close to the girl’s school, the mom’s work, wherever, where they can take the daughter to get the free vaccine,’ Bastani added.
The interventions are performed in six languages: English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean and Armenian.
‘It’s a randomized design. It’s every other week, so women calling on the ‘intervention weeks’ will get the intervention, women calling on the control weeks will not, Bastani said.
‘The vaccine is in three doses. We make a first call giving them enough time to see if they got the first dose, then we call back later to see if they completed the three-dose vaccine.’
Bastani tells CNSNews.com that the goal of study is simple: ‘Its to see if a simple intervention delivered through an existing county service can substancialy increase HPV vaccine uptake among low-income girls in Los Angeles County.’
The HPV vaccine protects against four different types of the virus, which are sexually transmitted and can cause various forms of cervical, anal, penile, and throat cancers.
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it continues to recommend HPV vaccination—‘based on information available today (That’s always encouraging!—my addition).’
Along with the Food and Drug Administration, the CDC examined adverse effects from the Gardasil HPV vaccine from June 2006 through December 2008.
Of the 23 million doses administered during that period, it counted 12,424 adverse events, 776 of which it described as ‘serious,’ including 32 deaths.
Nevertheless, the CDC concluded that the vaccine’s benefits continue to outweigh the risks at the present time.
CDC says it continues to ‘closely monitor’ the vaccine’s safety and will take additional action, if warranted, to protect the public (Has the federal government stopped manufacturing of a product because of 5 or fewer deaths? It seems they have!—my addition).
There has been much debate about the role the government has played in advocating the HPV vaccine to minors (With good reason! And now they are doing more than advocating its use!—my addition).”

“Obamacare Marketing Campaign to Cost Taxpayers $700M
BY: Washington Free Beacon Staff
July 25, 2013
The administration’s nationwide marketing campaign for the Affordable Care Act will cost taxpayers nearly $700 million, according to a Thursday report from the Associated Press.
The campaign aims to convince people to sign up for health insurance through the health insurance exchanges created by the law, commonly known as Obamacare.
Observers have warned that the law could face serious problems if people do not buy insurance in the quantities needed to offset the costs of increased coverage for less healthy customers, who can no longer be denied insurance.
‘The total amount to be spent nationally on publicity, marketing and advertising will be at least $684 million, according to data compiled The Associated Press from federal and state sources.’
‘About 16 percent of Americans are uninsured, but despite years of political debate and media attention, more than three-quarters of them still know little about the law known as ‘Obamacare,’ according to recent surveys. [...]’
‘The Obama administration and many states are launching campaigns this summer to get the word out before enrollment for new benefits begins in October.’
The campaign involves a full-court press on a number of different media.
‘Ads based on research about the uninsured will soon start popping up on radio, TV and social media. Grassroots organizers are recruiting their pastors, barbers and mothers and arming them with carefully worded messages. In some neighborhoods, volunteers will go door-to-door.’”

From: Texas Senator Ted Cruz
“PROTECTING THE INTEGRITY OF OUR ELECTIONS
On Friday, Senator Cruz presented legislation that will close a loophole in the federal ‘Motor Voter’ law that preempts states from enforcing requirements to ensure those registered to vote are U.S. citizens.
The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled in Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc. that the federal Motor Voter law—the National Voter Registration Act of 1993—preempted Arizona’s common sense requirement that a person present concrete evidence of citizenship before they are allowed to register to vote. As Justice Alito explained in his dissent, this is not what Congress intended thorough federal Motor Voter legislation.
The Court’s ruling leaves a hole in federal law that allows non-citizens to register by using the promulgated federal form without showing proof of citizenship. This encourages voter fraud and undermines efforts to ensure elections are fair and accurately reflect the will of U.S. citizens. Because the right to vote is a fundamental building block of our nation’s democratic process, it is crucial that we have measures in place to uphold the integrity of our elections. The bill presented by Senator Cruz ensures that states can enforce the common sense requirement that those registered to vote must actually be U.S. citizens.
Senator Cruz had also presented an amendment to the Senate immigration legislation that would have fixed this loophole, but Senate Democrats refused to allow a vote on it.”
Democrats do not want free elections! It is more difficult to win for them if there is no cheating on their part!

“Wisconsin Teachers’ Unions In Full Collapse
July 24, 2013 by Derrick Hollenbeck
Remember all those dire predictions about the damage Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s public employee union contract reforms would do? Remember the angst of Wisconsin’ teachers and other ‘vital workers’ over what they saw as the end of the line for their cushy jobs and control over their state? Well, they were right to be worried. They are getting crushed and put out of existence.
Now that two years have passed and the dust has settled, it’s safe to say that the union protesters who filled the legislative offices and camped out in Wisconsin’s state capital were actually optimistic. The results of Walker’s changes have been more devastating than either side could have feared or hoped for, depending on their point of view.
Since Act 10 passed two years ago, public employees’ unions have been in a steep decline they may not be able to come out of. Like a plane whose engines have failed will crash and burn, these unions are on their way to crashing and burning.
Savor this roll call of collapse in just two years.
Among Wisconsin’s fastest declining unions is AFSCME Council 24, which has seen a jaw dropping 88% (5,900 to 690) reduction in its dues paying members.
Another union, the WSEU, has shrunk from 22,000 members before Act 10, to less than 10,000 as of last December.
Wisconsin’s AFSCME Council 40 has lost 35% of its membership (31,730 in 2011 to 20,488 today).
Council 48 situated in Milwaukee County had 9,043 members two years ago. Today, it has 3,498 dues paying members.
Wisconsin’s teachers’ unions have lost 29% of their members, and there is no reason to believe the bleeding will stop anytime soon.
More than this, the whole state is experiencing a collapse of union membership, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistic release that set union membership at 11.2%, down from 13.3% just two years ago.
One poor union thug summed up Wisconsin’s sea change in attitudes toward unions this way: ‘If the public doesn’t care about the messenger, it’s not going to care about the message. If constituents don’t care, politicians aren’t going to care.’
There now, wasn’t that a fun read?!”
My first two years in college during the summers, I worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in East Peoria, Illinois. Since Illinois is a closed shop State, I had to join the UAW (United Auto Workers) and pay dues during the time I worked. Without joining the union first, I could not work.
I worked in the factory running a machine. Lunch time was twenty minutes and since I had gotten use to only two meals a day during my freshman year in college, my first night there I just kept working. Not my second night. Workers complained to my foreman and he told me I did not have to eat during lunch time but I could not work. I spent the lunch time reading.
We were suppose to produce 100% of the determined production each night. Since I was the first machine on the line, I had a number of different projects— milling the ends of the product and drilling holes in each end to be sent to other machines to continue the process of turning a piece of metal into a tractor part. Some were rather easy to reach the 100% and some were more difficult.
Toward the end of the summer, because I really appreciated my foreman, I ran 150% one night. The next night before work started, I checked the production sheet as I always did. My production was not listed. I asked the foreman why? He did it for my protection. The rest of the workers would not be happy knowing I produced 150% in one night. It made them look bad and there was a fear that production totals would be increased. The union shop! Every person does the same!
While I taught, each year I was a member of the local education association and therefore of the State association and the national association (By law, we were not required to join). That was a requirement. If I was teaching today, I would not be a member of the associations. The National Education Association has become a mouthpiece of the Democratic Party—supporting the MURDER of unborn babies and homosexual agenda. And do not kid yourself, many public schools are teaching these immoral behaviors whether or not it is part of the curriculum. No administer, no school board member knows everything that is going on and that is being said in the classroom. In the youngest grades particularly, the students have no idea that something inappropriate is going on!
Every State, for the good of the workers, should be a right to work State. No worker should be required to give money to support an organization that uses that money to support politics for which he disapproves. And all unions are political!

“Why is Obama lying on climate change?
by Marita Noon on July 22, 2013
The fact that President Obama has been spreading lies (It is one of the few things he does well!—my addition) about climate change to support his actions directing the Environmental Protection Agency to impose costly new restrictions on carbon dioxide emissions was exposed last week at a Senate hearing (Which is unconstitutional if he is changing, expanding, or going beyond the law! And it is because he could not get what he wanted through Congress!—my addition). The lie? Spoken with his trademark don’t-you-dare-question-me confidence during a November 2012, press conference, Obama said: ‘What we do know is the temperature around the globe is increasing—faster than was predicted even ten years ago (LIAR! LIAR! LIAR!—my addition).’ Then at a Chicago fundraiser on May 29: ‘We also know that the climate is warming faster than anybody anticipated five or 10 years ago.’ He’s likely said the same thing several times in the intervening months.
The hearing: ‘Climate Change: It’s Happening Now (Climate is ALWAYS changing! Sometimes up; sometimes down but it is by definition never static over time!—my addition)’ was held on Thursday, July 18, by the Environment and Public Works Committee—chaired by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA). Because Democrats control the Senate, they get more witnesses at a hearing than Republicans. Thursday’s hearing had two panels. Each had three experts (invited by the Democrats) who supported the ‘alarmist’ position on global warming held by most Democrats and two (invited by the Republicans) who could be called ‘skeptics.’
During the Q & A time with the first panel—which included the Democrat’s star: Heidi Cullen of Weather Channel fame, Ranking Member Senator David Vitter (R-Louisiana) asked: ‘Can any witnesses say they agree with Obama’s statement that warming has accelerated during the past 10 years?’ After an awkward (to say the least) silence, Cullen tried to change the subject by saying that we need to be looking at longer time periods then ten years and then, ultimately, acknowledged that the warming has slowed, not accelerated. A few minutes later, Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) made sure no one missed the point. He repeated Obama’s claim and then asked: ‘Do any of you support that quote?’ Again, silence (Telling! Very telling! The Democrats own witnesses!—my addition).
Even the witnesses brought in by the Democrats couldn’t support Obama’s false data. But, there were other interesting aspects of the nearly four-hour-long hearing.
Chairman Boxer, in her opening statement, proclaimed: ‘Predictions of climate change are coming true right before our eyes (Another LIAR!—my addition).’ She added, ‘We can look out the window and see the evidence of climate change mounting around us.’
I find it interesting that Boxer started off with ‘predictions.’ In preparation for the hearing, the Minority—led by Vitter—produced an important report: ‘Critical Thinking on Climate Change: Questions to Consider Before Taking Regulatory Action and Implementing Economic Policies.’ The 21-page report’s introduction states: ‘Over nearly four decades, numerous predictions have had adequate time to come to fruition, providing an opportunity to analyze and compare them to today’s statistics. … This report posits that as the developing world has greatly expanded its use of fossil energy and CO2 emissions have increased, then the predictions and claims regarding human influence on climate patterns should be apparent and easily proven.’ The remaining 19 pages are filled with predictions and claims—including Obama’s—that are false or foolish, such as Former Vice President Al Gore’s on December 13, 2008: ‘The entire north polar ice cap will be gone in 5 years.’ And a 1989 statement from the Associated Press: ‘Using computer models, researchers conclude that global warming would raise average annual temperatures nationwide by two degrees by 2010 (Garbage in; garbage out!—my addition).’ Each set of predictions and claims is countered by ‘The Latest Science.’ Reading the report, you’ll find that the claims often contradict the data.
Back to Boxer. She starts with dramatic predictions about heat waves (We have heat waves every year!—my addition), tropical storms and hurricanes—which will be more frequent and intense (I lived in Illinois the last nine years. The hottest decade in the Peoria, Illinois area was the 1930’s! The hottest year in the 1930’s! By a huge majority, the most hottest day records!—my addition).
The first witness was Cullen, Chief Climatologist at Climate Central—who continued with the ‘extreme weather events’ theme: ‘The impacts of human-caused climate change are being observed right here and right now in our own backyards and neighborhoods.’ She said that warming is happening very, very quickly and that it is expected to accelerate. She talked about extremes seen every day:
· More heavy downpours, (a non-meteorological term)
· More heat extremes,
· Increase in hurricane activity,
· Increase in flood magnitude, and
· Southwest increase in droughts and wildfires.
While Boxer and Cullen set the stage, as witnesses number 9 and 10, Roger Pielke, Jr., and Roy Spencer provided the final act in Thursday’s theater.
Pielke, a professor of environmental studies at the University of Colorado and the author of Climate Fix, started with seven ‘take-home points’ that totally eviscerated Boxer and Cullen’s ‘extreme weather’ claims. Showing a series of charts and graphs that can be found in his written testimony, Pielke convincingly proved: ‘It is misleading, and just plain incorrect, to claim that disasters associated with hurricanes, tornadoes, floods or droughts have increased on climate timescales either in the United States or globally. It is further incorrect to associate the increasing costs of disasters with the emission of greenhouse gases.’ The fact of the matter is (From Pielke’s testimony):
· Globally, weather-related losses have not increased since 1990 as a proportion of GDP (they have actually decreased by about 25%).
· Insured catastrophe losses have not increased as a proportion of GDP since 1960.
· Hurricanes have not increased in the US in frequency, intensity or normalized damage since at least 1900.
· There are no significant trends (up or down) in global tropical cyclone landfalls since 1970 (when data allows for a comprehensive perspective), or the overall number of cyclones.
· Floods have not increased in the US in frequency or intensity since at least 1950.
· Tornadoes have not increased in frequency, intensity or normalized damage since 1950, and there is some evidence to suggest that they have actually declined.
· Drought has, for the most part, become shorter, less frequent, and has been covering a smaller portion of the US over the past century.
Pielke’s comments are all the more noteworthy when you realize that he generally believes that humans are influencing the climate system ‘in profound ways.’
Last, but surely not least, was Roy Spencer who holds a Ph.D. in Meteorology and has spent his entire career in research—specifically satellite information retrieval techniques and global temperature monitoring. Spencer has served NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center as Senior Scientist for Climate Studies. He agrees with Pielke—and every other panelist that at least some of the recent warming is human-caused: ‘We probably are having some influence, but it is impossible to know with any level of certainty how much influence.’
Spencer tore apart the oft-quoted figure that 97% of scientists support the global warming consensus. He explained that it’s actually 97% of the published papers that acknowledge some human influence—which is ‘therefore rather innocuous, since it probably includes all of the global warming ‘skeptics’ I know of who are actively working in the field. Skeptics generally are skeptical of the view that recent warming is all human-caused, and/or that it is of a sufficient magnitude to warrant immediate action given the cost of energy policies to the poor. They do not claim humans have no impact on climate whatsoever.’
Why is Spencer ‘skeptical?’ For many reasons, but one involves data he showed covering the Roman Warm Period, the Medieval Warm Period and the Modern Warm Period. He said: ‘While today’s hearing is entitled ‘Climate Change; It’s Happening Now,’ it could have been entitled ‘Climate Change: It’s Happened Before.’ He explained: ‘The last 2000 years of proxy reconstructed temperature variations for the Northern Hemisphere shows that the Modern Warm Period (today) is not significantly different from the Medieval Warm Period of ~1000 years ago, or the Roman Warm Period of ~2000 years ago.
Spencer also demonstrated the failure of the computer model predictions upon which the IPCC based their projections of global warming. He offered a chart demonstrating the 73 models used and their predictions vs. the actual temperature measurement from two satellite datasets and four weather balloon datasets. ‘The level of disagreement between models and observations is quite striking.’ Spencer pointed out: ‘The magnitude of global-average atmospheric warming between 1997 and 2012 is only about 50% that predicted by the climate models. …The level of warming in the most recent 15-year period is not significantly different from zero, despite this being the period of greatest greenhouse gas concentration. This is in stark contrast to claims that warming is ‘accelerating.’’ He concludes: ‘It is time for scientists to entertain the possibility that there is something wrong with the assumptions built into their climate models (Duh! Garbage in; garbage out!—my addition). …and so far their error rate should preclude their use for predicting future climate change.’
Spencer’s testimony mentioned the ‘cost of energy policies to the poor’—which brings up another interesting contrast presented at Thursday’s hearing: the economics. As each of the Senators gave his or her opening statements, the Democrats—who claim to be the champions of the poor—never mentioned the cost, and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) exclaimed: “To save the planet will be expensive (What arrogance! What makes them think man can save anything!— my addition)!’ He proposed: ‘serious legislation to cut back on greenhouse gas emissions’ and called for ‘bold action (Bold but meaningless!— my addition),’ saying: ‘the US must lead the world.’ He’s introduced legislation for a tax on carbon (Of course! Democrats love taxes! More money for government! Less money for all the rest of the earners!—my addition). (Realize that the same week the hearing was held, Australia’s new Prime Minister announced that he ‘will ‘terminate’ the country’s carbon tax early ‘to help cost of living pressures for families and to reduce costs for small business.’)
Senator Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) addressed ‘the President’s intent to pursue a costly regulatory roll out’ which he said: ‘demands proof of sound science as well as transparency.’
The economists on the panel where those invited by the Republicans. Diana Furchtgott-Roth was one of them. She’s been chief economist at the U.S. Department of Labor, chief of staff at the Council of Economic Advisers, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Domestic Policy Council under President George H.W. Bush, and an economist on the staff of President Reagan’s Council of Economic Advisers.
I talked to Furchtgott-Roth after the hearing. She told me: ‘They don’t seem to be interested in whether or not climate change is really occurring (Of course not!—my addition). They are not interested in facts. They want a carbon tax because it will give them unlimited power and unlimited power means unlimited campaign contributions.’ Furchtgott-Roth pointed out how a carbon tax would hurt the economy and how the expensive proposed solutions would disproportionately affect low-income Americans. A chart she presented shows, based on Department of Labor data, that ‘those in the lowest fifth of the income distribution spend an average of 24 percent of income on energy, compared to 10 percent of the income for those in the middle fifth, and 4 percent of income for those in the top fifth.’ She presented several less costly options for climate change mitigation—if greenhouse gasses are really the problem—but felt they fell on deaf ears (Of course! Do not bother them with facts or truth!—my addition).
A lot of data was presented at the Senate hearing—much of which was obviously unsettling to the ‘alarmists.’ During the Q & A, the ‘skeptics’ were less attacked on the content of their testimony than they were on personal issues.
Boxer called out the two economists: Furchtgott-Roth and Dr. Robert P. Murphy, Senior Economist, Institute for Energy Research, because their organizations receive some funding from the oil and gas industry. Furchtgott-Roth pointed out that she’s been writing on these issues since long before becoming a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute.
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island) attempted to portray Spencer as a knuckle-dragging Bible thumper for his views on evolutionary theory (Which means he is right! Attacked for being a Christian! Typical of Democrats!—my addition). Spencer laughed, asked where that was coming from, and then told Whitehouse he’d be happy to show the stronger science arguments for design at another time. Clearly, Whitehouse’s comments were inappropriate, considering the topic at hand.
In his opening comments, Sanders smugly called the hearing an ‘Alice in Wonderland hearing’ because the people within the room were “’living in two separate worlds.’ Clearly, they are. But those two worlds accurately represent the American population—though in differing percentages. At the ‘Alice in Wonderland hearing’ the Majority supports the ‘alarmist’ view, which encourages a carbon tax and other ‘expensive’ solutions. In the real world, the majority doesn’t see climate change as a pressing problem—hence the shift to dramatic ‘extreme weather events.’ Americans prioritize economic growth over protecting the environment—a recent survey puts climate change at number 21 in a list of top concerns. In her written testimony, Furchtgott-Roth stated: ‘Americans know that no reduction in global warming will occur if America reduces greenhouse gases without similar action by China and India, and these countries have not agreed to comparable steps.’
The hearing’s ‘take-home points:’ Obama lied. Boxer and Cullen’s predictions are false. The models are inaccurate. So, for this we are going to ruin the economy and disproportionately hurt the poor?
The Democrats do NOT care about the poor! Their goal is control, control, control!

“GOP Representative Sarah Davis Op-Ed BLASTS Texas Republicans for Opposing Abortion
Posted by David Bellow on July 22, 2013 at 2:11pm
View Blog
by David Below of www.TexasConservativeRepublicanNews.com
GOP Texas State Representative Sarah Davis has slammed Republicans in a Houston Chronicle Op-Ed. Davis says Republicans should not be passing abortion restrictions because it is ‘not the role of the government’ and ‘the Republican Party should not dictate to women’ whether or not they can kill millions of unborn babies. That, she says, should be decided by a woman and her doctor.
This Op-Ed seems to be a response to the backlash Davis has seen after a recent article that I wrote asking the Texas GOP to follow the wishes of t... Many in the Texas GOP were tricked by Davis into believing she was pro-life. I think this Op-Ed should make things pretty clear to all Texas GOP officials that Davis is NOT pro-life.
Pro-abortion Republican Texas State Representative Sarah Davis is starting to show her true colors. We already know that she, the only Republican to oppose the Texas Pro Life Bills, sided with the orange clad, pro-abortion mob that was protesting the pro-life bills. It was thought though that the reason she took the anti-life stance was because she is in a district that would not elect her if she was pro-life. We now know that to be false. First, pro-life Ted Cruz won in her district with a higher percentage than her. Second, Sarah Davis has recently written an op-ed in the Houston Chronicle that goes beyond defending her pro-abortion stance. In the Op-Ed she bashes the Republican Platform and all Republicans who try to restrict abortions.
Davis outrageously claims in the Op-Ed that she is being Republican by opposing abortion restrictions because Republicans believe in a core value of freedom. I don’t know how old Davis is, but I am pretty sure that opposing abortion has been a core Republican value since before she was old enough to know what a core value was. Davis obviously also does not know that the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln, ended slavery in America. There were some people who believed in slavery for the same flawed reason that Sarah Davis believes in abortion. They said that the government should not get involved in slavery because slaves are below human and the government should not get involved between the right of a slave owner to own, beat or kill slaves. I guess Sarah Davis also believes that Abraham Lincoln was a bad Republican by using government to outlaw slavery and infringe on the freedom of a slave owner?
Someone should give Sarah Davis a copy of the Declaration of Independence. If she reads the first few lines she will see that everyone is endowed by our Creator with an unalienable right to LIFE. What about the life of the unborn baby? I believe in personal freedom too but not to the extent that it is legal to kill innocent unborn babies. You cannot exercise your freedom if you are DEAD! It just blows my mind that people actually can think that a new born baby is cute and is a human, but just seconds before when the baby was still coming out the same people think that it is just a mass of flesh that is not a human and can be slaughtered.
Davis, like all Democrats and Planned Parenthood, claims that she is NOT pro-abortion. She claims to be pro freedom like being for the freedom of someone to kill their own baby. Sarah and the Democrats use these trick words like pro-choice and pro-reproductive rights (Or women’s healthcare—my addition) to make it sound good and it sounds like they are not for abortion when that is exactly what they are advocating for.
In the Op-Ed, after bashing abortion restrictions, Sarah Davis hypocritically says that she would have been for the abortion restrictions if there were just a couple of changes. She says that she is not opposed to restricting abortions after 5 months if only there was an exemption, for instance, for the health of the mother. This is a TRICK that Sarah Davis is using to make it sound like she is for pro-life even though she has voted against every big pro-life bill that she has ever seen as a State Representative. You see, the pro-life bills passed by Texas already have an exemption for the life of the mother. Sarah Davis was not happy with that because it restricted too many abortions so Sarah wanted to add an exemption for the health of the mother. Why? Because by adding an exemption for the health of the mother would still allow basically any abortions after 5 months because anyone could use the excuse that it is bad for their emotional health if they have the baby.”
I just moved to Texas. Therefore, I’m just learning Texas politics. I’m listening to Robert Pratt but need to learn from other sources. This looks like a good one. The term of office for members of the House is two years. Her House District is in the Houston area. She had no primary opponent in 2012. She needs to be primaried in 2014 by a conservative who supports life!

“Landmark Federal Study: No Indication Fracking Contaminates Drinking Water
Erica Ritz
July 19, 2013
PITTSBURGH (TheBlaze/AP)—A landmark federal study on hydraulic fracturing, frequently referred to as fracking, shows no evidence (My use of bold—my addition) that chemicals from the natural gas drilling process moved up to contaminate drinking water aquifers at a western Pennsylvania drilling site, the Department of Energy told The Associated Press.
After a year of monitoring, the researchers found that the chemical-laced fluids used to free gas trapped deep below the surface stayed thousands of feet below the shallower areas that supply drinking water, geologist Richard Hammack said.
Although the results are preliminary—the study is still ongoing—they are a boost to a natural gas industry that has fought complaints from environmental groups (Environmental whackos! I’ve had contact with these people when on an Arizona school board. They lie through their teeth to get what they want! And at the end when we won and they lost, they said: “Yes [we lied], but we delayed the road and other building for ten years!”—my addition) and property owners who call fracking dangerous.
Drilling fluids tagged with unique markers were injected more than 8,000 feet below the surface, but were not detected in a monitoring zone 3,000 feet higher. That means the potentially dangerous substances stayed about a mile away from drinking water supplies.
‘This is good news,’ said Duke University scientist Rob Jackson, who was not involved with the study. He called it a ‘useful and important approach’ to monitoring fracking, but cautioned that the single study doesn’t prove that fracking can’t pollute, since geology and industry practices vary widely in Pennsylvania and across the nation (And nothing done by man is fool proof! That does not mean one does not use it! We have car accidents, we do not stop driving cars!—my addition).
The boom in gas drilling has led to tens of thousands of new wells being drilled in recent years, many in the Marcellus Shale formation that lies under parts of Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and West Virginia. That’s led to major economic benefits but also fears that the chemicals used in the drilling process could spread to water supplies.
In the anti-fracking film ‘Gasland (Which was and is a typical environmentalist fraud!—my addition),’ it was claimed that fracking could make water so toxic that it could actually be set on fire.
The study done by the National Energy Technology Laboratory in Pittsburgh marked the first time that a drilling company let government scientists inject special tracers into the fracking fluid and then continue regular monitoring to see whether it spread toward drinking water sources. The research is being done at a drilling site in Greene County, which is southwest of Pittsburgh and adjacent to West Virginia.
Eight new Marcellus Shale horizontal wells were monitored seismically and one was injected with four different man-made tracers at different stages of the fracking process, which involves setting off small explosions to break the rock apart. The scientists also monitored a separate series of older gas wells that are about 3,000 feet above the Marcellus to see if the fracking fluid reached up to them.
The industry and many state and federal regulators have long contended that fracking itself won’t contaminate surface drinking water because of the extreme depth of the gas wells. Most are more than a mile underground, while drinking water aquifers are usually within 500 to 1000 feet of the surface.
Kathryn Klaber, the CEO of the industry-led Marcellus Shale Coalition, called the study ‘great news.’
‘It’s important that we continue to seek partnerships that can study these issues, and inform the public of the findings,’ Klaber said.
While the lack of contamination is encouraging, Jackson said he wondered whether the unidentified drilling company might have consciously or unconsciously taken extra care with the research site, since it was being watched (Is it in the best interests of the company to contaminate water supplies? I think not!—my addition). He also noted that other aspects of the drilling process can cause pollution, such as poor well construction, surface spills of chemicals, and wastewater (Has he stopped driving cars? Stopped eating food? Stopped visiting movie theaters! What, that man is involved in, is totally safe?—my addition).
Jackson and his colleagues at Duke have done numerous studies over the last few years that looked at whether gas drilling is contaminating nearby drinking water, with mixed results. None of them have found chemical contamination but they did find evidence that natural gas escaped from some wells near the surface and polluted drinking water in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Scott Anderson, a drilling expert with the Environment Defense Fund, said the results sound very interesting.
‘Very few people think that fracking at significant depths routinely leads to water contamination. But the jury is still out on what the odds are that this might happen in special situations,’ Anderson said.
One finding surprised the researchers: Seismic monitoring determined one hydraulic fracture traveled 1,800 feet out from the well bore; most traveled just a few hundred feet.
That’s significant because some environmental groups have questioned whether the fractures could go all the way to the surface.
The researchers believe that fracture may have hit naturally occurring faults, and that’s something both industry and regulators don’t want.
‘We would like to be able to predict those areas’ with natural faults and avoid them, Hammack said.
Jackson said the 1,800-foot fracture was very interesting, but also noted it is still a mile from the surface.
The DOE team will start to publish full results of the tests over the next few months, said Hammack, who called the large amount of field data from the study ‘the real deal.’
‘People probably will be looking at the data for years to come,’ he said.”
There are some “environmentalists” who want to go back to the horse and buggy era with multiple windmills. Wait, windmills have been killing endangered birds. Aw, but they ignore that because it doesn’t fit their agenda and what’s the death of some birds if we can stop the production of oil and natural gas, coal, and all the other good things GOD has given man!
