Crossroads GPS, which bills itself as an organization ‘dedicated to holding Washington’s feet to the fire on the practical issues that will actually improve our country and our lives’, apparently doesn’t believe that ObamaCare gets it done.

(CNSNews.com)—Hundreds of Coptic Christian and Egyptian Americans rallied outside the White House today to express their support for the Egyptian army in its effort to protect people in Egypt from Muslim Brotherhood.

The protestors carried Egyptian flags and signs that read: ‘We support the Egyptian army,’ ‘You can burn down our churches but you can never touch our faith,’ and ‘Let the Egyptian people choose their own future (The Obama Administration, when they supported the Muslim Brotherhood, supported a known terrorist group! Who knew the Egyptian people would turn against them?—my addition).’

The demonstrators called on the Obama administration to follow the lead of the Egyptian Army, who they claim is defending both Christians and Muslims from terrorists.

‘The people are here, because they feel that our U.S. administration has been taking the side of the Muslim Brotherhood, who has been burning churches in Egypt and attacking public institutions, police stations and brutally killing people,’ said Magid Riad, an attorney from New York and legal counselor for the Coptic Church in the United States.

Riad, the main organizer of the rally, told CNSNews.com, ‘We feel that our government in the United States should not be supporting this terrorist organization (Agreed!—my addition).’

Wagdi Anton was born in Egypt, and is now living in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended the rally carrying an Egyptian flag.

‘The Muslim Brotherhood is a terrorist organization killing people, burning churches. The media here are not displaying the real story. Civilians are being killed. Churches are being burned, and government buildings, schools and orphanages are being destroyed,’ he told CNSNews.com.

‘The people who voted for Morsi, don’t want him anymore and that is their right,’ Anton added.

Violet Heness came to Washington from her hometown of Drexel Hill, Pa.

‘Christians and Muslims are gathered together to tell the president to stop supporting the organization responsible for burning over 80 churches. American money should not be going to people killing both Muslims and Christians.’

The demonstrators then marched several blocks to the office of the Washington Post and then to the Washington news bureau of CNN. Many of those taking part say some elements of the American news media are not reporting the truth.

‘Some of the American media give the impression that this is like a military-revolution in Egypt. It is not like that at all. It is the people themselves who wanted change in the existing government,’ said Father Mikhail Mikhail, senior pastor of St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Seven Hills, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland.

‘We need people in the United States to understand that the Egyptian people must decide their own will ... nobody should interfere in that business,’ Mikhail added.

The demonstrators then marched to the offices of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). The demonstrators call this group ‘The Embassy of the Muslim Brotherhood.’ The march concluded at the office of the Egyptian military attache.

Throughout the demonstration, several marchers carried large bullhorns to proclaim: ‘We support the Egyptian Army.’

The demonstrators called the Egyptian-military ‘heroic’ and said it was protecting innocent people in Egypt against terrorism (Which no doubt took them by surprise! If the Obama Administration continues in its lawless way, it too may be surprised! Not a threat! Just saying!—my addition).”

Has there been a modern-day Administration more incompetent in advancing the interests of the United States than the Obama Administration? Does his Administration make the Carter Administration look good in comparison?

Hollywood at times doesn’t even attempt to hide their pro-socialist advocacy, anti-free enterprise angst. And yet they make million/billions of dollars in that same free enterprise system! Apollo 7 astronaut Walter Cunningham knows a lot about science and the importance of getting it right. Walt has earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in physics. He has also completed all coursework for a doctorate in that discipline, but those studies were interrupted by other commitments before completing thesis requirements. In addition, he is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.

Walt put his science and technology background into real action as a Marine Corps fighter pilot and Apollo Lunar Module pilot. He has logged more than 4,500 hours of flying time of including more than 3,400 in jet aircraft, and more than 263 hours in space. (I’m not sure how many hours he has logged flying closer to Earth over Texas highways in his Corvette.) Walt was called upon to further apply his mission training and flight experiences as Chief of NASA’s Skylab Branch of the Astronaut Office.

Col. Cunningham, like many other scientifically and technologically experienced space program professionals, is an outspoken critic of pseudo-scientific climate alarmist claims. In this interview he explains why.

Larry Bell: Walt, you kindly contributed an endorsement of my book commenting that, ‘Those of us fortunate enough to have traveled in space bet our lives on the competence, dedication, and integrity of the science and technology professionals who made our missions possible … In the last twenty years, I have watched the high standards of science being violated by a few influential climate scientists, including some at NASA, while special interest opportunists have abused our public trust.’

What issues stand out most as reasons for arriving at this conclusion?

Walt Cunningham: Larry, I come from a background where responsible science and technology are the difference between life and death. The Apollo Program relied on quality data and objective interpretation to advance knowledge in areas of science and technology that had never before been explored. All of us had complete trust in the competence, integrity and accountability of those we worked with to create the systems and hardware we depended on in the most extreme environment. We did not allow the media to affect our conclusions; our conclusions influenced the media.

Over the years, NASA has slowly, but inexorably changed its culture and filled management positions with those compatible with the new culture. They absorbed their ‘new ways of thinking, new people, and new means.’ They have contributed to a society that is becoming less and less capable of measuring up to the motivation, inspiration, challenge, risk acceptance and accomplishments of Apollo.

We didn’t expect our scientists and engineers to know everything, or that their hypotheses would always be right. Hypotheses are ideas to be challenged, and to ultimately be proven or disproven by empirical evidence.

During a 2008 CBS 60 Minutes interview, Al Gore, who was launching a major global warming crisis advertising campaign at the time, responded to a question by Leslie Stahl about skeptics by stating: ‘I think (He thinks! A misnomer if I’ve ever heard one! When did Al Gore become an expert on man-made global warming?—my addition) those people are in such a tiny, tiny minority now with their point of view. They’re almost like the ones who still believe that the Moon landing was staged in a movie lot in Arizona and those who believe the world is flat.’

Having seen the Earth from orbit, I don’t expect you are one of those ‘flat-Earther’ skeptics Gore referred to, are you?

Cunningham: No, Larry, I can emphatically vouch for the fact that the Earth is spherical. But, when it comes to global warming, the public-at-large really doesn’t know whom to believe anymore. And NASA has contributed to that confusion.

With lots of help from James Hansen and others at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), alarmist camps have been hammering us for years. The media is made up mostly of ‘true believers’. Politicians, in the absence of understanding and knowledge about climate science, have put themselves out on a limb from which it is difficult to retreat. Given the economic interests and the political powers involved, this dilemma will not go away quietly or anytime soon. In the court of public opinion, media and money play powerful roles.

The biggest problems I see with the sorry state of ‘climate science,’ as the public comes to know it through the media, are the alarmist claims, unsupported by data and history, being presented as facts (True! And they lie about those who disagree with them! Follow the money! Supporting man-made global warming means MONEY!—my addition). When these claims cannot be validated by empirical data, they attempt to justify them by equally dishonest claims of proof by ‘consensus’. These alarmist claims create unwarranted fear in order to promote their political and profiteering agendas, while establishing regulatory policies that kill business and grow government—all at a terrific cost to taxpayers and energy consumers.

Without the science to back up their wild forecasts and claims, and the overwhelming evidence for natural temperature variation, alarmists try to exploit this unwarranted fear by resorting to the precautionary argument: ‘We must do something just in case we are responsible, because the consequences are too terrible if we are to blame and do nothing (According to early alarmists, we are suppose to be dead by now! What happened?—my addition).’

Those of us who challenge alarmist claims of accepted theory and ‘consensus’ are referred to as ‘skeptics’, as if that’s a bad thing. Responsible scientists are supposed to be skeptical. Those who aren’t qualify as demagogues. In the days of Apollo, astronauts, engineers, flight controllers and managers were skeptical of anything that might impact landing a man on the Moon. That attitude led to success in one of the biggest challenges in history.

If you buy a phony conclusion, as Al Gore obviously did, the consequences can be terribly costly.

Bell: It’s interesting to me that while NASA, particularly GISS, has contributed much to this misinformation and public confusion, there are also quite a number of NASA professionals, mostly retirees, who aren’t drinking the human-caused climate crisis Kool-Aid. Last year you and others lodged formal complaints to NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden, Jr., regarding the dismal and embarrassing state of the agency’s climate science programs.

Cunningham: Many of NASA’s retirees have grown increasingly concerned that GISS, a NASA organization located in a midtown Manhattan office building, was allowing its science to be politicized, compromising their credibility. Our concern, beyond damage to the NASA’s exemplary reputation, was damage to their current or former scientists and employees, and even compromising the reputation of science itself.

We developed a letter to NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden and obtained signatures from seven Apollo astronauts, several former Headquarters managers and Center directors, and 40 former management-level technical specialists. We asked that he restrain NASA from including unproven claims in public releases and on websites. Statements by NASA that man-made carbon dioxide was having a catastrophic impact on global climate change are not substantiated, especially when considering thousands of years of empirical data. It is clear that the science is NOT settled.

The unbridled advocacy of CO2 being the major cause of climate change is inconsistent with NASA’s history of conducting an objective assessment of all available scientific data prior to making decisions or public statements. They should be emphasizing to the media that human-caused global warming is a hypothesis, not a scientific fact (And it is a garbage in; garbage out hypothesis!—my addition).

Bell: And the second letter?

Cunningham: Well, NASA Chief Scientist, Dr. Waleed Abdalati, testified at a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing that the sea level was projected to rise between 0.2 meter and 2 meters within the next 87 years. This was based upon the warmest temperature scenarios, derived of course, from highly theoretical computer models.

A group of NASA retirees responded with another letter charging that NASA in general, and GISS in particular, has failed to objectively assess all available data on climate change, while relying too heavily upon complex climate models that have not succeeded in predicting climate. The letter specifically asked that GISS, then headed by James Hansen, not incorporate unproven remarks in public releases and websites.

Thankfully, James Hansen has since resigned. He was an embarrassment and disgrace to the agency.

Bell: So that behavior struck you as playing to a political Obama administration agenda?

Cunningham: That would be a fair observation. We felt that NASA’s commitment to climate science should be consistent with the agency’s reputation for rigorous science. When they don’t have real facts, as in this case, they should be honest about what they actually do and don’t know.

Understanding global climate and what, if anything, humans can do to affect it are scientific questions that can be answered only by honest science and scientific data. Yet, global warming alarmists invariably try to make their case through rhetoric, dogma, opinion, and emotion. They like to cite their climate models, and the public buys it.

Shouldn’t we be emphasizing that models are not data, and that climate models have never successfully predicted anything? Models are built upon assumptions (opinions), and if the bases for the assumptions are wrong, the results can never accurately predict future behavior (garbage in; garbage out!—my addition)

Anytime the ‘evidence’ is debatable, we should push for open and honest public debate in an effort to get to the ‘truth.’ Unfortunately, believers in human caused global warming avoid debate like the plague.

Bell: Of course, your NASA colleagues, along with any other crisis skeptics outside the politically correct ‘climate establishment’, can be expected to have their debate credentials derided (not the ‘right stuff’ in this case), and often their motives challenged as well. I’m aware that you have encountered that just as I have, along with several of our mutual friends.

Cunningham: The human contribution to climate has to be put into context with the 18 to 20 highly complex, natural climate drivers constantly at work. Most of those who study climate are specialists in one special discipline or another. They are not ‘big picture’ people who see and connect all of the dots. I’m a geophysicist, which provides the skills and understanding of important principles. I know how to collect and analyze technical/scientific data. And, while I don’t claim to be a ‘climate scientist,’ I do follow the subject closely enough to recognize incongruities in data and logic.

A response to one of my articles on climate change acknowledged my education in physics and then concluded with, ‘Nothing in your bio leads anyone to believe that you are remotely any sort of an authority on climatology.’

To paraphrase one response to our NASA letters: ‘Why should we pay attention to what you say? You’re just a dumb astronaut (And what is Al Gore?—my addition).’

The aerospace culture is comprised of technically sophisticated, problem-solving professionals who work together to connect the dots so that what they create can be verified to work. The people who signed those letters to Administrator Bolden are those kinds of individuals. Many of us conducted the science, designed and managed the manufacture of enabling hardware and software systems, tested their reliability, launched them, and flew colleagues to another body in our solar system a quarter of a million miles away and safely back again.


Bell: It’s not as if our government isn’t already throwing enough money at a contrived climate crisis. The National Research Council just released a report based upon a 2-year-long study that concluded that President Obama’s sweeping new Green energy subsidy program costing tens of billions to combat ‘climate change’ is virtually useless. This new spending is on top of an estimated $48 billion spent in just the past two years.

Arguments to justify this ongoing waste depend upon data from compliant fright factories like NASA’s GISS. But what is a legitimate role for NASA in the climate science arena?

Cunningham: NASA should be at the forefront in the collection of scientific evidence and debunking the current hysteria over human-caused [anthropogenic] global warming [AGW]. Unfortunately, it is becoming just another agency caught up in the politics of global warming, or worse, politicized science. Advocacy and support for the White House agenda is replacing objective evaluation of data, while scientific data are being ignored in favor of emotions and politics.

The conflict over AGW has deteriorated into a religious war—a war between true believers in a human-caused global warming problem and nonbelievers; between those who accept AGW on faith, and those who consider themselves more sensible and better informed. ‘True believers’ are beyond being interested in evidence; it is impossible to reason a person out of positions they have not been reasoned into.

Much of this may be due to today’s lowered educational standards in scientific literacy, skepticism and critical thinking.

Many people today are unable to distinguish between science and non-science, leaving them vulnerable to the emotional appeal of human caused global warming. Unfortunately, most students today are fed a lot more hype about self-esteem and global warming than real information about history and science. Let’s finally recognize that ‘self-esteem’ is no substitute for common sense, and ‘indoctrination’ is no substitute for education.

With the right leadership, with the right science, and with the right commitment to excellence and integrity, we will go much farther. And, it’s high time to do so.

Bell: Walt, I think that says it all. Thanks for not only walking the talk, but for flying the dream as well.”

The process for people attempting to enter the country illegally through the Mexican border has often been characterized as grueling, dangerous and even potentially deadly; a trek across smoldering hot deserts led by ruthless ‘coyotes’ who profit from human suffering.

Meet the new coyotes: immigration attorneys and government rule-writers (Traitors!—my addition).

According to the clear guidelines published on the Internet and updated by the Obama administration in mid-June, there’s an easier way to cross to gain entrance to the United States: simply step right up to a border crossing and tell the officials that you have a ‘credible fear’ of persecution or torture. Use that exact phrasing and you may be able to enter the USA while you await a hearing before an immigration judge … a process that could take years (Seriously! What scum from this Administration! Our own government is helping people game the system!—my addition).

As Breitbart News reported yesterday in a story that swept through the Internet, that’s exactly what’s been happening recently with a flood of new asylum requests that seem designed to overwhelm the system.

The Obama Department of Homeland Security led by Janet Napolitano updated the information on their article Questions & Answers: Credible Fear Screening on June 18th, 2013 (Her parting “gift” to the American people!—my addition). The article explains that if you claim ‘credible fear of persecution or torture’ that you can seek asylum, and that the process is subject to review.

‘Individuals Seeking Asylum

If you are in expedited removal proceedings and found to have a credible fear of persecution or torture, you may seek asylum before an Immigration Judge (IJ). (See definition for Credible Fear in the ‘Glossary’ link to the right)

If the asylum officer does not find that you have a credible fear of persecution or torture, you may request that an IJ review that determination. If you do not request review by the IJ or the IJ agrees with the determination, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) may remove you from the United States.’

It defines with a ‘credible fear’ is:

‘Q. What Is a Credible Fear of Torture?

A. A ‘significant possibility’ that you can establish in a hearing before an Immigration Judge that you would be subject to torture if returned to your country (see definition of Torture in the ‘Glossary’ link to the right) [How likely would they be able to prove it. However, if in the U.S. waiting for a decision and amnesty is passed will they get amnesty? You know they will!—my addition].’

Elsewhere on the DHS site, the government draws a distinction between a ‘credible’ fear and a ‘reasonable’ fear. The credible fear standard appears to be a lower bar, which is likely why it became the key word used by about 200 people a week ago at the Otay crossing near San Diego.

‘Q. What is a reasonable fear of persecution?

A. You credibly establish that there is a ‘reasonable possibility’ you would be persecuted in the future on account of your race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. The legal standard is the same standard used to establish a well-founded fear of persecution in an asylum case.

You cannot establish a reasonable fear of persecution based only on past persecution without establishing a ‘reasonable possibility’ of future persecution. After a reasonable fear of persecution or torture is found, the Immigration Judge will decide if you are eligible for withholding of removal or deferral of removal. Withholding of removal only provides protection against future persecution and may not be granted without a likelihood of future persecution. However, if you establish past persecution, there is a presumption that your fear of future persecution is reasonable.’

The webpage spells out the Catch-22 of the asylum claim: if the asylum officer finds you have a ‘credible fear,’ the next step is a hearing by an immigration judge. However, if the asylum officer does not find you have a ‘credible fear,’ you can then request a appeal hearing by an immigration judge. Either way, you will have a hearing in front of a judge (Which gives them a tremendous amount of power! Was this all set up by Congress or is this Obama rewriting laws?—my addition).

This is where the fun begins, because you will wait for your hearing in the United States under some sort of bond. Effectively, you are free to roam about the country for years. This ‘credible fear’ tactic was used by Lizbeth Mateo, Lulu Martinez and the others in the Dream 9 group of illegal alien activists to gain reentry into the Unites States last week.

As the Los Angeles Times reported:

‘The protest took root in July when Marco Saavedra of New York, Lizbeth Mateo of Los Angeles and Lulu Martinez of Chicago—all young adults brought into the U.S. illegally as children—voluntarily crossed the border into Mexico as a protest of the administration’s deportation policies. They tried to reenter the U.S. on July 22 with six other dreamers who also had been brought to this country illegally as children but had returned to Mexico more than a year ago for various reasons.’

The Times points out the claim that the Dream 9 are making that pushes the legal envelope:

‘A person seeking asylum must establish a well-founded fear of persecution based on ‘that he or she belongs to a race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion,’ according to Citizenship and Immigration Services guidelines.

Some of the Dream 9 are petitioning for asylum, saying that they have family members who have been killed and face death threats themselves (Why? Supposedly they have lived in the U.S. since coming here as children! Gaming the system and the Obama Administration wants them to!—my addition).

However, many in the Dream 9 claim they should be granted asylum because they belong to a particular group of people—that they are singled out and persecuted in Mexico because they have lived most of their lives in the U.S. They could become targets for criminal organizations that see them as easy prey for extortion and violence, they claim.’

It bears repeating: some in the Dream 9 are claiming that they fear persecution in Mexico because they spent time in the United States as illegal aliens. They are prepared to argue that illegal aliens are a particular social group that is due asylum consideration for having been illegal aliens (Which is ridiculous! I am going to be persecuted in Mexico because I did not live in Mexico!—my addition).

It’s such an outlandish argument that it’s one only a lawyer could love, but it will be years until an immigration judge hears it. In the meantime, Dream 9 activist Lizbeth Matter remains in the United States and begins her first day of law school at Santa Clara University today (We MUST be the laughing stock of the world!—my addition).”

EXCLUSIVE: A sudden influx of illegal immigrants from Mexico requesting asylum is overwhelming immigration agents in San Diego, forcing agencies to rent hotel rooms for some undocumented families and release others to cities around the U.S.

Documents obtained exclusively by Fox News show Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been paying for hotel rooms for dozens of recently arrived families to relieve overcrowding inside the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa, Calif., processing centers. Some ICE employees are working overtime and others have been asked to volunteer to work weekend shifts (This instead of catching bad guys crossing the border to do harm to the United States! It certainly makes Obama sense! It does not make common sense! If the Republicans vote for any type of amnesty, the Party is finished!—my addition). ‘Duties include intake, placements, transports and release of family groups and unaccompanied minors,’ according to a memo obtained by Fox News.

The surge has raised suspicions about what is driving the influx, amid claims that illegal immigrants have learned they can attempt to get asylum by using a few key words—namely, by claiming they have a ‘credible fear’ of drug cartels (See above post!—my addition).

‘This clearly has to have been orchestrated by somebody,’ said former U.S. Attorney for Southern California Peter Nunez. ‘It’s beyond belief that dozens or hundreds or thousands of people would simultaneously decide that they should go to the U.S. and make this claim (Posted on the internet!—my addition).’

Sources say one day last week, 200 border-crossers came through the Otay Mesa Port of Entry claiming asylum while as many as 550 overflowed inside the processing center there and in nearby San Ysidro.

‘People were sleeping on floors—they had nowhere to put them,’ said one source, a long-time border agent and supervisor. ‘This shouldn’t be happening. Unless there is an immediate and well-publicized policy change, this situation will become another debacle (Do not count on the Obama Administration to change it and the leadership in the Republican Party has NO backbone! Mitch McConnell GONE!—my addition).’

At a hotel near San Diego—which Fox News agreed not to identify for security reasons—ICE vans arrived several times over the weekend with immigrant families. They were escorted to the second floor by two armed, uniformed agents. Two border agents secured the entrance and side door (What a ridiculous waste of resources!—my addition).

Documents obtained by Fox News show that recently on a single day, dozens of illegal immigrants were being transferred to an area hotel where rooms cost $99 a night (Ridiculous!—my addition). Others were released to addresses in Texas, Florida and even Brooklyn, N.Y.

ICE sources say the addresses are almost always bogus. When they don’t show up for court, they are removed by an immigration judge in absentia.

Most of the immigrants came from Mexico, but others listed their native country as Haiti, Romania, Guatemala and Iraq. Some were over age 50, others were under a year old. Thirty were transported to a hotel. Seventy were released around the country.

Fox News spoke to four agencies responsible for the San Diego situation last week. All deferred to the Department of Homeland Security press office in Washington, D.C., which issued this statement:

‘Credible fear determinations are dictated by long standing statute, not an issuance of discretion. The USCIS officer must find that a ‘significant possibility’ exists that the individual may be found eligible for asylum or withholding or removal (And how long does it take and why is it being broadcast on the internet?—my addition).

‘If the credible fear threshold is met, the individual is placed into removal proceedings in Immigration Court. The final decision on asylum eligibility rests with an immigration judge.’

It is during this time—during removal proceedings—when illegal immigrants are released. Many don’t show up, as 91 percent of asylum claims from Mexico are denied (And where do they go or rather do they stay in the U.S. illegally?—my addition).

Asylum claims from Mexico are highly unusual and critics say this is an orchestrated sham—it’s not about getting asylum, they say, but about overwhelming the system and getting a free pass into the U.S. and a court date for which no one will show up.

‘Hundreds of thousands of people have never returned and the list of people for whom warrants are outstanding is phenomenal,’ said Nunez. ‘We have a long history of people absconding from immigration hearings of one sort of another, they just blend back into the community (Stay HERE ILLEGALLY!—my addition).’

ICE sources say an estimated 600,000 to 800,000 illegal immigrants a year do not show up for their court date and disappear into the U.S.

The number of asylum claims is on the rise, almost tripling the last four years. Most come from Chinese, Egyptian and Ethiopian immigrants. Fewer than 200 a year come from Mexico, let alone 200 in a day. However, by claiming they have a ‘credible fear of persecution’ if returned to Mexico, the immigrant is entitled to a series of interviews, hearings, proceedings and appeals that can drag on for years.

The initial evaluation usually is done in the border processing center by an asylum officer employed by USCIS.

Officials stress that meeting the ‘credible fear’ standard is not a tentative asylum approval. It’s simply a step in the process.

An immigration spokesman said last week: ‘The legal threshold for ‘credible fear’ is broad and low to ensure individuals who may face a ‘significant possibility’ of persecution ... have the opportunity to have their case heard before an immigration judge.’

Last week, an asylum officer heard the claims of the ‘Dream 9,’ nine Mexican nationals brought to the U.S. as children. Even though seven of the nine lived, worked and went to school in Mexico without incident, they were granted asylum. Most thought they would be deported (The power of the judge! Way too much power!—my addition).

‘The orders from Washington are to simply turn these people loose,’ said Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform. ‘All you have to say is you qualify for the Dream Act and/or you intend to apply, and they’re instructed by their higher-ups to simply turn these people loose, to set them free and let them pursue any path they want (The Obama Administration is a criminal enterprise!—my addition).’

There are 57 immigration courts and 231 immigration judges. Immigration courts handle 280,000 proceedings each year—an average of 1,243 per year per judge, or four decisions per day.

Asylum can be granted if the applicant has suffered past persecution or has a ‘well-founded fear of persecution’ on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a social group, or political opinion in their native country.”

The battle over whether the Republican-controlled House will grant amnesty to illegal aliens or push back the Democrat-controlled Senate’s drive to create millions of new Democrat voters has heated up.(My use of bold. So, why would any Republican—gang of four within the gang of eight—deliberately increase the number of Democratic voters?—my addition). Because the House is in recess and its members are back in their home districts, the psychological warfare operations phase of this battle has been ratcheted up by the Democrats.

A new report from the leftist blog ‘The Hill’ tells us that Democrat Representative Luis Gutierrez (Chicago—Mexico, Puerto Rico, and South America) is crowing about personally knowing of between 40 and 50 House Republicans who are ready to be ‘supportive of immigration reform.’

Although he would not name these four dozen or so Republicans, when asked to expand on his claim, Gutierrez said ‘If they ask me today, go find those 40 to 50 Republicans, I’ll tell them I found them. I know where they’re at …. I’m not going to tell you the names of some of them because some of them I’ve spoken to, and they’ve said I’d love to do the activity with you. I want to be able to vote for it. Nevertheless, in a little-heard comment made this morning on WFTW’s (Fort Walton Beach, Florida) Ken Walsh show, local Republican Congressman Jeff Miller said in an unequivocal manner that the House would not vote for amnesty for illegal aliens. In his answer to a constituent’s question on the immigration reform issue, Miller continued by saying ‘Speaker Boehner told us directly that amnesty will not pass the House.’

Okay that’s both sides. They couldn’t be more opposed to one another. Both Gutierrez and Miller were firm and unambiguous in their statements on the same issue. The question for us becomes, ‘Whom do we trust?’

There was a time not long ago when there would be no question but to accept the Republican’s word. Sadly, those days are over. It could be Gutierrez who is lying; but these days, we just don’t know.

I am an American living in Australia and when I first moved here, I was appalled by what I experienced. I’ve always had a fascination with the country. It is beautiful and filled with many wonders, but the government here is socialistic and oppressive. There is a veneer of freedom over a massive, onerous regulatory mindset.

Socialism takes on many forms. In my research, I’ve found everything from communistic socialism to libertarian socialism. In the U.S., the Dear Leader is striving for a USSA by pursuing democratic socialism under the guise of ‘social justice.’ From Wikipedia:

‘Social democracy is a political ideology that officially has as its goal the establishment of democratic socialism through reformist and gradualist methods. Alternatively, Social democracy is defined as a policy regime involving a welfare state, collective bargaining schemes, and support for publicly financed public services.’

There are a number of different themes surrounding different styles of socialism, but one theme permeates all socialism: governmental control. In a socialist country, you’re too stupid to know what’s best for you (Or what’s good for you or what is fair for you or anything else!—my addition). A socialist country treats you as if you were a slightly slow child that simply doesn’t know any better. You must be told what to do in almost all situations. This is where the veneer of freedom comes in.

Individualism is not encouraged, but is tolerated within a careful framework if you are a ‘productive’ citizen. Socialism is all about forcing you to do things in the name of ‘fairness and social-personal responsibility’ whether or not is truly moral. In pursuit of this, socialism brings in massive government regulation, which strangles initiative. I once commented to an Aussie about the oppressive regulations and he said, ‘Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it (Right!—my addition).’ The vast majority of citizens of a socialist country are sheeple.

Too Stupid to Know Better
In order to insure the smooth functioning of society, and in keeping with the idea that you’re too stupid to know what’s good for you, a socialist government has massive bureaucracies that do nothing but promulgate regulations; lots and lots and LOTS of regulations. Because, in the minds of the ruling elite, without them, you don’t know how to get out of bed in the morning and know whether or not to (Remaining sentence deleted as inappropriate. I can do that. It is my blog—my addition)”

“‘My first month Down Under was quite an adjustment, one which is an ongoing process. I began to get my first inkling what to expect from this socialist utopia when I saw my first traffic sign. My first thought was, ‘DUH! Of course you turn with care.’ I thought this was common sense, but hey, when in Rome …. Then I saw other signs that began to really make me wonder. If a road is freshly paved, obviously there won’t be any broken lines to mark lanes, but they usually put down small reflective markers. About ten yards before the fresh pavement there is always a sign that again, made me scratch my head.

Again, my first thought was, ‘DUH! Of course.’ Again, you’re too stupid to know better unless the government tells you (You mean like when you take food out of an oven at 400 degrees and you are warned that the food is hot?—my addition).

When I got my Class B truck license I was dumbfounded to see a law that told you exactly how you must get into your truck. Yes, no joke. There is a law Down Under, punishable by a fine, which tells you exactly how to get into your truck. Again, I was too stupid to know this, so there had to be a law enacted.

Want to hear about some more asinine regulations? To become a babysitter, you must obtain a government approved certificate (license) in child care. To get it, you must take a six month course costing thousands of dollars just to babysit (They do not want minors to babysit!—my addition). Want to be a janitor? You must take a course in cleaning toilets and get a government license that costs nearly $800. You want to use a chain saw on the job? You guessed it! Another license. Wanna use a riding lawnmower on the job? Yup, another license.

These courses aren’t about how to clean, babysit or use a chain saw, they are all about control. The government wants to makes sure you’re under strict control … for your own good, of course, since you’re too stupid to know any better. The problem is that this attitude permeates the ordinary person’s thinking.

I’ve driven a forklift for several years and during my first day on one job, one of the other good little socialists asked me if I knew how to drive a fork. In spite of telling him yes and that I had years of experience, he proceeded to show me in detail how to raise the forks, tilt and side shift. I thought that maybe this was just this particular person, until I had another job and the same thing happened. I have found that this attitude is the societal norm.

Wealth Redistribution
The socialist government of Australia is money hungry. Of course, this is to promote fairness as defined by the elite. I’ve heard the rumor that Australia has some of the lowest taxes in any first world country. True enough, until you start counting the fees charged for almost every single government service. Then there is their Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 10%. The GST is a sales tax (Also known as a values added tax!—my addition) and is charged on everything. Any transaction conduced in this country from a single piece of bubble gum to the four quarters you put in a video game to college tuition are taxed, including every single exorbitant fee charged by the government.

My driver’s license included the usual government fee … plus GST. I had to have a heavy vehicle driver’s log that I could only buy from the government … plus GST. Vehicle registration is about $250, plus GST. All hospitals are run and owned by the government. Get sick and have to pay if you don’t have social health benefits: cost plus GST. Court fees, plus GST. Parking or speeding fine, plus GST.

Income taxes start at 18% and skyrockets from there. If you get any government benefit such as the equivalent of Social Security, housing assistance, etc., and get well or return to work, when it’s tax file time, guess what? Yup, you pay taxes of at least 18% on your benefits. If you work all your life in another country, then make the mistake of moving to the Land Down Under to retire, guess what? They tax your foreign pension.

Here are a couple of definitions that I think are applicable:

Theft: In common usage, theft is the taking of another person’s property without that person’s permission or consent with the intent to deprive the rightful owner of it.

Extortion: 1. The crime of obtaining money or some other thing of value by abuse of one’s office or authority.

2. Oppressive or illegal exaction of money or some other thing of value.

Tax: The involuntary or compulsory payment of money demanded by a government.

What’s the difference between a tax, theft or extortion?

A socialist government wants you to succeed, but not too much. Just like the Dear Leader once said, he believes a person can make too much money. Of course, the more you make, the more you can ‘contribute’ to the running of the government, so just go on succeeding and contributing like a happy little socialist.

Surveillance
Video cameras are everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE. About 75% of intersections have cameras as does about 90% of all businesses. Traffic cameras on the roads record license plates on all vehicles, their location along with the date and time. Certain types of vehicles are actively tracked from point to point. If you drive a truck with three or more axles, your movements are tracked around the country. GPS is mandatory in newer trucks with your exact speed and route recorded in a unit that can only be opened by the government.

Crime and Punishment
Crimes against persons and property are on the rise. In 1996, most firearms were outlawed and a massive government buy back was initiated. The only people who turned in their weapons were … drum roll please … yup, the honest citizen. Did this stop crime? It rose dramatically for several years, then slowly lowered … until 2010. Gun crime in the state of New South Wales from 2010-2012 has risen 90%.

Unofficially, but still a written rule, there are two types of criminals in a socialist country: your ordinary decent criminal who commits violent crimes and then the horrifying, despicable person who commits a crime against the government. Commit welfare fraud or defy a court order and you can count on going to jail. Commit murder, as in the aboriginal man who stabbed another aboriginal resulting in his death and you get 18 months’ probation. Or, the serial pedophile who was given two years. Or the serial rapist who was given 15 years, got out in five and murdered a woman two weeks later. Commit fraud against the government and you’ll get at least five years.

This is just a few of the things we can look forward to if the Dear Leader gets his way.”
